Brewers Injury Update: Tyler Thornburg won't need Tommy John

By on 6/12/2014 11:00:00 AM

Tyler Thornburg was placed on the 15-day DL Saturday with a sore right elbow. It seemed as if Tommy John surgery was on the way. On Wednesday, we learned that his ulnar collateral ligament is fine and he will not need Tommy John surgery. That is great news for both the Milwaukee Brewers and for the for the young righty.
The issue with his elbow is unknown. The 25-year-old is back in Milwaukee, the head team physician William Raasch reviewd the MRI and the club will be holding off on a diagnosis until Thornburg can see a radiologist in the near future.

This year he has appeared in 27 games this season. He is 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. He has only given up one home run this season which gives him a 0.3K/9. This his first season as a full-time reliever.
