Cardinals Injury Update: Kolten Wong hits DL with shoulder problem

By on 6/22/2014 01:00:00 PM

St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong has been placed on the disabled list after failing to recover from the shoulder injury which has hampered him recently. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that Wong is still battling soreness in his right shoulder and will be replaced on the roster by Shane Robinson.
Goold spoke to manager Mike Matheny, who said Wong has been unable to finish his swing since developing the problem. That happened on June 3rd, when the young second baseman hurt the shoulder diving for a ground ball.
Wong is hitting .228/.282/.304 in 158 plate appearances this season. He has hit  under .100 over the last week and the Cards have clearly decided it is counter-productive for him to continue playing through the discomfort.
