Cardinals Injury Update: Tyler Lyons, Kolten Wong

By on 6/10/2014 07:00:00 AM

Tyler Lyons of the Cardinals began his rehab assignment Monday after injuring his shoulder and went two innings giving up one run. He struck out three and gave up three hits, while throwing 41 pitches with Double-A Springfield.

"Well obviously the second inning went a little cleaner than the first. I felt fine in the first inning too. Not really any difference in the innings just a little better luck. Even in spring training you got to start somewhere, you got to build up. For me the next time out I got to being a little bit better, a little bit stronger and the ability to go a little bit longer," said Tyler Lyons to Megan Rice of Ozarks First

This season, Lyons has an ERA of 6.12 in 25 innings pitched while starting 4 games. He has 23 struck outs, 7 walks, and has given four home runs. The 26-year old has just one year of expierence where he started 8 games.

In 2013, Lyons had an ERA of 4.75 in his rookie season while walking 16 and striking out 43 in 53 innings pitched. He had a WHIP of 1.23 while helping the Cardinals reach the World Series. He will likely be back by next week and could placed in the bullpen if they want to keep their rotation in tack.

Kolten Wong took swings Sunday for the first time this past weekend while feeling no pain in his tender left shoulder. Mike Matheny said Wong could have played Sunday, but they decided to give him four days of rest.

This season, Wong has a line of .258/.319/.333 with 1 home run, 15 RBI, 10 walks, 16 strikeouts, 8 stolen bases, and a 1.2 WAR in 37 games.

In 2013, Wong saw 32 games while putting up a slash of .153/.194/.169 with 3 walks, 12 strikeouts, and a double.
