Colts Injury Update: Reggie Wayne will be ready for training camp

By on 6/07/2014 11:06:00 PM

Reggie Wayne has gone about his business as one of the best wide receivers in the league for many years now, but for the first time in his career he is attempting to come back from a major injury as a torn ACL ended his 2013 season in Week 7. Wayne sat out of OTAs, but he was cleared for football activities in late April and all indications are he will be ready for the start of training camp.

Wayne is not expected to participate in the Colts' minicamp later this month, and it makes sense for the team to not rush him back into action since he'll turn 36 in November. At this stage it's better for all involved to allow younger receivers like LaVon Brazill, Da'Rick Rogers and Donte Moncrief to get some time with quarterback Andrew Luck, and free agent acquisition Hakeem Nicks should benefit as well.

There's not a lot Wayne would gain by participating in extensive offseason work at this stage of his career any way, so the top priority has to be his return to full strength in time for training camp and the start of the season. He will still be an important part of the Colts' offense in 2014, both on the field and as a mentor to the team's young wide receivers.
