Cubs Injury Update: Emilio Bonifacio leaves Thursday's game in 1st inning

UPDATE: Chicago Cubs center fielder Emilio Bonifacio suffered an injury to his right rib cage during the swing that injured him in the first inning Thursday night says's Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat.

ORIGINAL: On the game's second pitch Thursday night, Chicago Cubs center fielder Emilio Bonifacio swung hard and hit the ground hard as he grounded to Pittsburgh Pirates Jordy Mercer. Bonifacio appeared to have strained his side during his swing and needed help off the field.

Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat of tweeted the news just as it happened.
Bonifacio dropped to the ground right in the batter's box and did not attempt to run. He needed help from head trainer P.J. Mainville to walk off the field. There is no word yet on the exact injury, but the Cubs plan to perform further evaluation Friday morning.

Chris Coghlan replaced Bonifacio in the lineup and played left field, moving Junior Lake to center.
Bonifacio is hitting .266 with 1 HR, 16 RBI, and 13 SB in 60 games as the Cubs' primary lead-off hitter. Coghlan is hitting .190 in 28 games.
