Diamondbacks Injury Update: Mark Trumbo still on schedule for July return

By on 6/07/2014 09:30:00 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks lost the first of a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves by the score of 5-2. The loss dropped the Diamondbacks to 26-37, last place in the National League West. The Diamondbacks have eight players on the disabled list and no loss bigger than that of outfielder Mark Trumbo, who is out with a stress fracture in his left foot. The good news is that Trumbo is on schedule with his rehab.

As reported by Adam Lichtenstein of, Trumbo is slowly working his way back to the field. According to manager Kirk Gibson, Trumbo hit on the field for the first time on Friday after batting strictly in the batting cage and off a tee.  Gibson said the Trumbo is looking for a return sometime in July.
"I think everything [is still troublesome for Trumbo]. Just the sheer volume of what he does. Personally, I haven't seen him run … I don't think he's been in the outfield like running around and catching balls. I don't think he's there yet. He's coming along on schedule."
Trumbo, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .210 with seven home runs and 19 RBI, in 84 at bats. Last year he batted .234 with 34 home runs and 100 RBI. It was the second straight 30-plus home run season for Trumbo, who hit 29 in his rookie season in 2011. Trumbo is a career .248 hitter with 102 home runs and 303 RBI.
