Dodgers Injury Update: Yasiel Puig exits with hip injury

By on 6/21/2014 01:17:00 AM

Yasiel Puig of the Dodgers left Friday’s game against the Padres due to a mild left hip muscle strain, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times.

Puig has missed time this year due to other leg injuries, including hip problems  and this might keep him out of the lineup for a couple of days. The Dodgers were winning 5-3 in the 8th inning when Puig left the game. He went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI.

This season Puig has a line of .324/.413/.544 with 11 home runs, 44 RBI with 34 walks, 60 strikeouts, and a /958 OPS in 68 games. He is 7 of 14 trying to steal and is one of the worst in the majors at making outs on the base paths. Even though he has had his struggles controlling himself, he is an National League MVP candidate so far into the 2014 season.

In 2013, he hit for a slash of .319/.391/.534 with 19 home runs, 42 RBI, 36 walks, 97 strikeouts, 11 stolen bases, and a .925 OPS in 104 games. He had a 5.0 WAR. He came in second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting behind Jose Fernandez.
