Giants Injury Update: Angel Pagan placed on DL

By on 6/25/2014 03:00:00 PM

After sitting out eight games with back tightness, as I reported, Angel Pagan has been placed on the disabled list, according to Alex Pavlovic of The San Jose Mercury News. Adam Duvall has been recalled from Triple-A Fresno and will be a bench guy as well seeing time at first base.

Pagan, 31, can come off the disabled list Monday, the 30th of June. He injured himself in the series against the Rockies last week where he made some mental mistakes in the outfield that helped Colorado sweep the Giants.

Gregor Blanco has replaced Pagan the past 8 games and has hit for a .261 average with 2 stolen bases. Since last season, the Giants are 85-59 with Pagan and 33-58 without.

Pagan has missed time this season due to hamstring, shoulder, knee, and now back issues. He has still played 63 games while having a line of .307/.356/.411 with 3 home runs, 19 RBI, 19 walks, 29 strikeouts, 11 stolen bases, and a .767 OPS.

In 2013, Pagan had a slash of .282/.334/.414/.749 with 5 home runs, 30 RBI, 44 runs, 36 strikeouts, and 23 walks in 71 games. He tore his hamstring while hustling around the bases on a walk-off inside-the-park home run in June.

The Giants have lost 11 of 14 and now have a 3 game lead in the National League West over the Dodgers. San Francisco had a 9.5 game lead on the 8th of June, but that lead has diminished quickly.
