Giants Injury Update: Brandon Belt to remove cast Friday

By on 6/04/2014 10:15:00 AM

According to Henry Schulman of SF Gate, Brandon Belt will remove his cast for good Friday, then he will begin his rehab process in his return from a fractured left thumb.

“The way it feels, I can’t imagine they’ll find anything,” Belt said to Schulman. “It feels great.”

Belt was hit four weeks ago by a Paul Maholm sinker and will likely need two weeks of rehab to get his game back, including minor-league innings. Schulman says Belt has been taking swings off a tee with his right hand only and a feew with the knob of the bat resting in his left palm. He will likely be activated late June.

This season, Belt has a slash of .264/.317/.504 with 9 home runs, 18 runs batted in, 8 walks, and 38 strikeouts in 35 games. Belt is in the top tier in home runs in the majors after hitting 17 in 2013.

In 2013, Belt hit for a line of .289/.360/.481 with 17 homers, 67 runs batted in, 52 walks, and 125 strikeouts in 150 games.

In 2011, Belt broke his wrist and spent time on the disabled list. This is his second time on the disabled list in his short career.
