Giants Injury Update: Brandon Belt making progress

By on 6/10/2014 07:30:00 PM

According to Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area, Brandon Belt was seen taking ground balls before Monday’s game against the Nationals where they ended up losing 9-2.  He was not gripping the ball with his hand yet. Belt is expected to be back by the end of June and start a rehab assignment in the coming weeks.

Belt was hit four weeks ago by a Paul Maholm sinker and will likely need two weeks of rehab to get his game back, including minor-league innings. Schulman says Belt has been taking swings off a tee with his right hand only and a few with the knob of the bat resting in his left palm. He will likely be activated late June.

This season, Belt has a slash of .264/.317/.504 with 9 home runs, 18 runs batted in, 8 walks, and 38 strikeouts in 35 games. Belt is in the top tier in home runs in the majors after hitting 17 in 2013.

In 2013, Belt hit for a line of .289/.360/.481 with 17 homers, 67 runs batted in, 52 walks, and 125 strikeouts in 150 games. He turned it on in the second half batting over .300 and finding his spot in the Giants lineup in the 3-hole.

Madison Bumgarner and Doug Fister face off in San Francisco Tuesday night as the Giants look to take game two after losing game one to the Nationals.
