Giants Injury Update: Michael Morse returns to lineup

By on 6/24/2014 11:00:00 AM

After exiting Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks and sitting out Sunday In Arizona due to back tightness, as I reportedMichael Morse returned to the lineup Monday against the Padres.

In the Giants loss to the Padres, Michael Morse returned and went one for three with a single as they fall to 45-31.

On Saturday Morse swung at an inside pitch and felt something in his back and looked to be in some discomfort. Bruce Bochy gave Morse the day off Sunday, but he was back in the lineup Monday. Morse has struggled with injuries in his career as he was hurt most of the 2013 year with a wrist injury.

In 2013, Morse hit for a slash of .215/.270/.381 with 13 home runs, 27 RBI, 21 walks, 87 strikeouts, and a .651 OPS 88 games between the Mariners and Orioles. He was plagued with wrist injuries all year and insisted he was 100% healthy going into 2014.

This season, Morse has proven to be a key addition to the club as he is hitting for a line of .287/.342/.522 with 13 home runs, 44 RBI, 17 walks, 65 strikeouts, and an .864 OPS in 74 games. He was signed to a one-year, $6 million deal in the offseason after having a poor 2013 season.

The Giants play the Padres Tuesday night as Jesse Hahn (2-1, 2.16 ERA) and Tim Hudson (7-2, 2.39) square for game two of the three game series.
