Mariners Injury Update: Justin Smoak, Logan Morrison

By on 6/11/2014 11:15:00 PM

On Wednesday, the Seattle Mariners placed slugging first baseman Justin Smoak on the 15-day DL. They replaced him with utility man Logan Morrison (1B, OF, DH).

Smoak had appeared in every game this season for the Mariners before missing all of Tuesday night's game against the New York Yankees with a left strained quad (for more info click here.)

Morrison, 26, was traded from Miami to Seattle in December. He played in the first eight games, but has not played since April 14, when he left with a strained right hamstring that took him right to the DL.

In the first 25 games Smoak was on fire, batting .250 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI's. Since then he has struggled hitting just .180 in 38 games. Morrison or "LoMo" as his teammates call him, got off to a slow start with Seattle. He had a cold bat, hitting .150 through only eight games. There is hope because he batted .308 with three home runs in 18 games with Triple-A Tacoma during his rehab stint. He was in the lineup on Wednesday night to face Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees. Seattle (34-40) could use an offensive boost. They rank 11th in the American League in home runs with 49 and 10th in the American League with 4.12 runs per game.
