MLB.com's Erik Bacharach reports that Hechavarria's MRI results showed that he has a strained right triceps, but Marlins manager Mike Redmond still considers his shortstop day-to-day.
Redmond says he wants to wait to see how Hechavarria responds to rest before making a roster move. Bacharach quoted Redmond discussing the plan. Said Redmond,
"We're going to try to give it a few days to see if it gets better and is able to play without putting him on the DL. We thought he was getting better -- he was getting better, feeling better. [Monday] he tried to throw and still had some discomfort there. Now it's just a matter of seeing how he feels going forward."Ed Lucas has played shortstop in Hechavarria's absence, and Lucas figures to keep playing until Hechavarria returns to the lineup.
Hechavarria is hitting .272 with 17 RBI in 72 games this season.
