Marlins Injury Update: Christian Yelich activated

By on 6/29/2014 12:00:00 PM

On June 16, Miami Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 14 with a lower back strain. He played for Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday and went 1-for-5 with a home run and four RBI's. He will take the place of Jake Marisnick who has been playing in Yelich's absence. Marisnick has struggled in 47 plate appearances. He is slashing .159/.213/.159 with zero home runs and zero RBI's. This is weird because before the season, Marisnick, was ranked among baseball's top 100 prospects according to Baseball America and Yelich is set to return to the lineup on Sunday as reported by MLBRosterMoves.

Yelich, in his second Major League season he is batting .259 with six home runs and 24 RBI's. He only had 240 plate appearances last season and he batted .288 with four homers and 16 RBI's. Yelich is an upgrade over Marisnick at the plate which will boost the Marlins batting order. They have a .254 AVG (15th), .320 OBP (12th), and a .386 SLG (14th). Yelich will be able to increase those numbers to give the pitchers the run support they need.
