Marlins Injury Update: Rafael Furcal out Monday with sore knee

The Miami Marlins lost in 13-innings to the Chicago Cubs on Monday by the score of 5-4. The loss dropped the Marlins to 35-34, third in the the National League East. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 19th home run of the season in a losing effort. The Marlins are hanging tough in the division due to an offense that is sixth in the league in runs scored. On the injury front, Rafael Furcal was out with a sore knee. Jeff Baker started at second base and went 0-for-5 with a walk

Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel reported that Frucal was not in the starting lineup on Monday after fouling a ball off the top of the knee. He's expected to be back in the lineup tonight, according to manager Mike Redmond.

Furcal, in his first season with the Marlins, has been sidelined the majority of the season due to injury. In four games, he's 3-for-17 with a walk and two runs scored. The 14-year veteran has played for the Braves, Dodgers, Cardinals and Marlins and has a career batting average of .281 with 113 home runs and 585 RBI.
