The Chicago White Sox' first-round draft pick in 2004, Gonazalez was acquired by the Nationals from the Oakland Athletics in December 2011 in exchange for A.J. Cole (minors), Tommy Milone, Derek Norris and Brad Peacock. (The Nationals re-acquired A.J. Cole in 2013 in the Michael Morse trade.)
