By on 6/01/2014 08:00:00 AM

Right-hander Tommy Hunter of the Baltimore Orioles, who is on the disabled list with a left groin strain as Blaine Blontz of Sports Injury Alert reported, will throw a bullpen session on Sunday, according to Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun.

Manager Buck Showalter said that he will likely throw it at Double-A Bowie and that he believed Hunter would need two bullpen sessions before going on his rehab assignment, which is the last step before pitching in the majors again. He is elgible to come off the DL on June 5.

Hunter has been throwing flat ground bullpens, but this will be his first session from the mound.

This season, Hunter took over the closer’s role and has an earned run average of 6.06 with 11 saves and 3 blown saves. He has a WHIP of 1.84 while walking 5 and striking out 15 in 16.1 innings.

In 2013, Hunter pitched out of the bullpen for Baltimore, putting up an ERA of 2.81 in 86.1 innings pitched while striking out 68 and walking just 14. He saved 4 games, while blowing 2.  He had an impressive WHIP of 0.98.
