Padres Injury Update: Jedd Gyorko placed on 15-day DL

By on 6/07/2014 08:00:00 AM

On Wednesday, infielder Jedd Gyorko said that he is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot as reported by Corey Brock.
Brock's initial reaction was correct: it was announced Friday afternoon that Gyorko had been placed on the 15-day DL with plantar fasciitis.

The Padres are in need of Gyorko's power and poise because they currently sit 12 games back of the Giants in the National League West. They are the worst hitting team in baseball. Their batting line is .221(30th)/.283(30th)/.351(29th) along with only scoring 191(30th) runs this season.

Gyorko has been struggling this season. He has been benched multiple times. He blasted 23 home runs in a promising 2013 regular season. However, this season his batting line has dropped to .162/.213/.270 with five home runs and 24 RBI's in 204 at-bats. He is also 0 for 13 in his last four games. It is unclear how long Gyorko will be out of action.
