Phillies Injury Update: Cliff Lee aiming for mid-July return

By on 6/23/2014 08:30:00 PM

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee has been sidelined since May 20 with a strained flexor-pronator tendon. He threw off the mound for the first time June 17. It was a strong first step toward his recovery. The lefty ace threw a full bullpen session which contained 20 pitches, those being only fastballs.

Lee said,
"It feels real good. I was letting it go pretty hard, pretty much max effort. I can tell there's something there, but there's nothing painful or uncomfortable."

In ten starts, Lee is 4-4 with a 3.18 ERA. When he returns he should get one or two starts before the trade deadline on July 31. The Phillies should have a few offers because of Lee's skill and experience. He could even be one of the best players the Phillies have to offer. Initially, he was only suppose to miss a few starts, but now he is eyeing a return by the All-Star break.
