Phillies Injury Update: Cody Asche returns Friday

By on 6/20/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday by the score of 4-1. Ryan Howard went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Chase Utley went 2-for-4 with two runs score in the winning effort. With the win, the Phillies have improved to 33-38 and pulled to within four games of first place in the National League East. The Phillies have won four straight, all on the road, and eight of their last ten. Good news on the injury front, as third baseman Cody Asche will be activated today and should be in the starting lineup tonight against the Cardinals.

I reported on June 14 that Asche was scheduled to play a week's worth of rehab games in the minor leagues before rejoining the Phillies. Reid Brignac and Cesar Hernandez have seen the bulk of the action at third base in Asche's absence.

An update on Asche, according to the Twitter account of Buzz of Broad, which covers Philadelphia Sports,
Asche batted .235 with five home runs and 22 RBI in 162 at bats last season. His recent hot streak before the disabled list improved his average this season to .258 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 120 at bats.
