Phillies Injury Update: Wil Nieves tweaks quad

By on 6/19/2014 06:30:00 AM

The Philadelphia Phillies scored seven runs in the first two innings on Wednesday and hammered the Braves by the score of 10-5. The win finished off a sweep of the Braves and improved the Phillies to 32-38, five games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East. The Phillies pounded out 18 hits and had six players with at least two hits, despite playing without Jimmy Rollins, Carlos Ruiz and Ben Revere. With Ruiz getting the day off, Wil Nieves got the start behind the plate and went 3-for-6 with two runs scored. But he was forced to leave the game in the ninth inning with a quad injury.

As reported by Jim Salisbury of, Nieves was one of five Phillies to get three hits in Wednesday's win, but he came up lame as he ran out a double in the ninth inning. Nieves said he felt a "little pop" in his right quad. Nieves left the game and Ruiz caught the bottom of the ninth.

There is no word as to whether or not Nieves will land on the disabled list, but Nieves feels he'll be fine.
“I hope I don’t need to go on the DL. I don’t think I will. I’m a quick healer and Chooch will be in there the next few days anyway. I should be good in a couple of days.”
Should Nieves have to go on the disabled list, expect Cameron Rupp to be called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  Nieves is batting .259 with a home run and four RBI this season. He's a career .241 hitter with nine home runs and 107 RBI.
