Pirates Injury Update: Neil Walker completes running drills

By on 6/16/2014 06:00:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Miami Marlins on Sunday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the Pirates below the .500 mark at 34-35, third in the National League Central. The Pirates got two hits a piece from Andrew McCutchen, Gregory Polanco and Josh Harrison in a losing effort. Harrison has been playing for Neil Walker, who is currently on the disabled list.

Our own Raymond Bureau reported on June 10 that Walker was out of the lineup due to abdominal pain, which was diagnosed as appendicitis, which needed emergency surgery. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Travis Sawchik, who covers the Pirates for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, tweeted the following update on Walker.
Walker, in his sixth Major League season, has played his entire career with the Pirates. He's batting .280 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI in 239 at bats this season. He's on a pace to shatter his season high in home runs of 16, which he set last season. In 610 career games, Walker has a batting average of .274 with 65 home runs and 306 RBI.
