Pirates Injury Update: Neil Walker progress

By on 6/18/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped to two games below .500 at 34-36 following a 6-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. The Pirates banged out 13 hits, but reliever Jason Grilli gave up the winning run in the ninth inning, to drop his record to 0-2 on the season. The loss dropped the Pirates to fourth place, eight games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. There was a bit of good news on the injury front, as Neil Walker continues to progress from his appendectomy, but there is still no timetable for his return.

I reported on June 16 that Walker was progressing from his emergency appendectomy and was able to complete some running drills. Walker's progression has continued according to a tweet from Rob Biertempfel, who covers the Pirates for the Pittsburgh Tribune..
Walker, in his sixth Major League season, has played his entire career with the Pirates. He's batting .280 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI in 239 at bats this season. He's on a pace to shatter his season high in home runs of 16, which he set last season. In 610 career games, Walker has a batting average of .274 with 65 home runs and 306 RBI.
