Rays Injury Update: Wil Myers out for at least two months

By on 6/04/2014 09:45:00 AM

The last place Rays have gotten more bad news as they found out reigning AL Rookie of the Year Wil Myers will be out for two months, because of a stress fracture in his wrist. Myers does not need surgery.

Myers, 23, collided with Desmond Jennings in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday night when they were chasing after a fly ball that ended up being the game winner for Boston. Myers will wear a cast for 5-6 weeks, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. He will rehab after that and the Rays hope he is back by August.

This season, Myers has a line of .227/.313/.354 with 5 home runs, 25 RBI, 25 runs, 52 strikeouts, and a .666 OPS in 53 games. There is no doubt he has struggled, but he is still young and developing as a hitter trying to adjust everyday.

In 2013, as the AL Rookie of the Year he hit for a slash of .293/.354/.478 with 13 home runs, 53 RBI, 33 walks, 91 strikeouts, and an .832 OPS in 88 games. He was acquired by Tampa Bay in the trade that sent James Shields to Kansas City the offseason before 2013.
