As reported by Stephen Pianovich and Spencer Fordin of MLB.com, the move to sit Ludwick was a precautionary move. Ludwick was still available and came into the game in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter. He came up runners on first and second, but grounded out to end the inning. Chris Heisey started in left field in place of Ludwick and went 0-for-5 with a strikeout. Ludwick should be considered day-to-day and could be back in the lineup today.
Ludwick, in his 12th Major League season, has played for the Rangers, Indians, Cardinals, Padres, Pirates and Reds. He's batting .276 this season with five home runs and 21 RBI. Ludwick's best season was in 2008 when he batted .299 with 37 home runs and 113 RBI while with the Cardinals. He's a career .263 hitter with 150 home runs and 563 RBI.
