Royals Injury Update: Bruce Chen activated

By on 6/24/2014 08:00:00 PM

The Kansas City Royals have decided to active left-handed pitcher Bruce Chen from the 60-day DL. They will be sending him to the bullpen for a long relief role. The Royals needed to clear roster space. They sent reliever Tim Collins to Triple-A Omaha to make the space for Chen. Also, they designated lefty Donnie Joseph for assignment as reported by Andy McCullough.

Chen started the season with Kansas City. He was part of the starting rotation. He ended up landing on the DL with a bulging disk in his back.

Chen made four minor league rehab starts. Last weekend he struck our 11 over 5.1 innings against Triple-A Albuquerque. He has worked out of the bullpen in the past, however; he has not appeared in a MLB game since April 24. He is 1-2 with a 7.45 ERA this season. Look for that number to drop as he gets more appearances.
