Spurs Injury Update: Tony Parker takes elbow to ribs in Game 2

By on 6/09/2014 11:45:00 AM

The San Antonio Spurs dropped Game 2 of the NBA Finals by the score of 98-96. The loss evened the best-of-seven series to 1-1. Tony Parker scored 21 points in a losing effort. Tim Duncan added 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Manu Ginobili scored 19 off the bench. There is a bit of concern on the status of Parker moving forward, as he suffered a rib cage injury in the fourth quarter.

As reported at, Parker was injured when Heat's Mario Chalmers was called for a Flagrant-1 foul for intentionally winding up and throwing an elbow to Parker's ribs while he was driving to the basket. Although Parker missed the two free throws, he did make a key three-point field goal later in the quarter.  He didn't appear to be bothered by the injury, but his status for Game 3 is currently unknown. Should Parker miss the game or need additional rest during the game, expect Ginobili or Patty Mills to see additional minutes.

Parker, in his 13th NBA season, is averaging 17.5 points and 5.2 assists in 20 post season games. He averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 assists during the regular season. In 940 career games, all with the Spurs, Parker is averaging 17.1 points and six assists per game.
