Twins Injury Update: Trevor Plouffe to DL

By on 6/16/2014 11:15:00 AM

The Minnesota Twins lost to the Detroit Tigers on Sunday by the score of 4-3. The loss was the second straight to the first place Tigers, dropping the Twins five games back in the division at 32-35. Joe Mauer and Eduardo Escobar each had two hits for the Twins. Escobar was filling in for Trevor Plouffe, who was out with a left oblique strain. It appears Escobar will continue to get increased playing time as Plouffe has been placed on the disabled list.

Our own Darius Austin reported yesterday that Plouffe  came out before the fourth after making an attempted diving stop at third base on an Ian Kinsler single. X-rays were negative on Plouffe's ribs and the club was describing the injury as a left oblique strain.

Matt Slovin of updated the status of Plouffe, as the Twins placed him on the disabled list before Sunday game with inflammation between the ninth rib and costal cartilage on his left side. To fill Plouffe's spot on the roster, Pedro Florimon was recalled from Triple-A Rochester.

Plouffe, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .241 with five home runs and 38 RBI this season.  He had a career-high 24 home runs in 2012 and batted .254 with 14 home runs and 52 RBI last season. Plouffe is a career .240 hitter with 53 home runs and 182 RBI.
