Vikings Injury Update: Matt Kalil, Linval Joseph

By on 6/20/2014 01:27:00 PM

The Minnesota Vikings don't have any major injury concerns with training camp a little over a month away, but offensive tackle Matt Kalil (knee) and defensive tackle Linval Joseph (shoulder) were limited during OTAs and minicamp as they work their way back from offseason surgeries. Kalil's right knee surgery in April was already known and widely reported, but news of Joseph's January surgery on his right shoulder was kept under wraps until recently.

Kalil and Joseph are expected to be ready for the start of training camp, and both will be a key piece along each line for the Vikings. Kalil stepped right in as Minnesota's starting left tackle as a rookie in 2012 and earned a Pro Bowl selection, while Joseph signed a five-year deal on the first day of free agency to help fortify what has become a suspect run defense in recent years. The team knew about Joseph's shoulder surgery prior to signing him, so it's clearly not a major concern as long as he is indeed ready to go when training camp starts.
