49ers Injury Update: Kendall Hunter has torn ACL

By on 7/27/2014 09:00:00 AM

The San Francisco 49ers are looking for a new understudy to Frank Gore.
Cam Inman of the Mercury News reports that Running Back Kendall Hunter tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Friday and has been lost for the season.

Hunter was entering the final season of his rookie contract. He was hurt catching a swing pass from Blaine Gabbert in 7-on-7, non-contact drills.

This is Hunter's second major injury since breaking into the league in 2011. He missed the last two months of the 2012 season with a torn Achilles.
Candidates to fill the 49ers’ No. 2 tailback job are LaMichael James, Carlos Hyde, Jewell Hampton and Marcus Lattimore. Lattimore is on the non-football-injury list, but has been doing conditioning drills.
