49ers Injury Update: Marcus Lattimore to open camp on non-fooball injury list

By on 7/20/2014 09:00:00 AM

The San Francisco 49ers have placed six players on their non-football injury list. Among those six, is second-year running back Marcus Lattimore. After multiple knee injuries at South Carolina, Lattimore fell deep into the 2013 NFL Draft and he is still yet to see the field. In February Lattimore was close to 100 percent, reports Marc Sessler from Around the League.

While Lattimore's return to the field is put on hold, he'll have to watch rookie running back Carlos Hyde and veteran back Frank Gore take the snaps at training camp. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh seemed hopeful about Lattimore's rehab.

With training camp less than a week away, Lattimore will remain on the non-football injury list. In order to make his lifelong NFL dream come true, the running back will have to come back sooner rather than later, to add competition to the Niners backfield. Some believe that Carlos Hyde was picked because the organization wasn't certain about Lattimore's recovery.  Now known to be injury prone, Lattimore has an up hill battle to get on the field.
