76ers Injury Update: Pierre Jackson injures Achilles

By on 7/07/2014 07:00:00 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a dismal season in which they lost 26 consecutive games at one point and finished with just 19 wins. Clearly looking at the rebuilding process to take a few seasons, they drafted Joel Embiid, who will miss five to eight months with a stress fracture in his foot.  They are also looking for improvement with several young players, including Nerlens Noel and Pierre Jackson. Noel had a solid Summer League debut, but there are concerns with Jackson, who injured his Achilles in the first half of the opener against the Magic on Saturday.

As reported by Jason Wolf of USA Today,  Jackson injured his right Achilles tendon at the Amway Center on Saturday and could miss the entire 2014-2015 season. There was no apparent contact when Jackson dropped to the court in obvious pain. He finished with seven points and a steal in seven minutes of action.

Jackson was drafted by the Sixers with the 42nd pick of the 2013 NBA draft, but was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noel deal.  Jackson returned to the Sixers during last month's draft for Russ Smith.

Jackson, a two-year starter at Baylor, averaged 19.8 points, 7.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game in the 2012-2013 season. In 74 collegiate games, Jackson averaged 16.7 points, 6.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
