Astros Injury Update: George Springer scratched Friday night

By on 7/11/2014 08:48:00 PM

Houston Astros star rookie right fielder George Springer was a late scratch before Friday night's game with the Boston Red Sox due to discomfort in his right knee. L.J. Hoes started in right field and batted ninth for the Astros.

The exact problem is not yet known, and Springer is listed as day-to-day.

Springer is hitting just .238, but he has blasted 19 home runs and driven in 50 runs in 74 games since his call-up in mid-April. His power numbers put him in the running for the American League Rookie of the Year award, but he will have to raise that average to have a chance at catching Chicago's Jose Abreu, who is the clear front runner now that New York's Masahiro Tanaka is out for at least six weeks and possibly for the season.
