Astros Injury Update: George Springer, Jesus Guzman

By on 7/20/2014 04:45:00 PM

Houston Astros rookie sensation George Springer was held out of Sunday's lineup as a result of both knee and quad soreness in his right leg. The news was tweeted by Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle, who also noted that manager Bo Porter doesn't think the DL will be necessary for Springer:

The Astros have an off-day on Monday so this allows the team to give Springer a couple of days rest before deciding whether or not to make a move. They will face Oakland at 10:05PM ET on Tuesday night.

Springer wasn't the only player to miss Sunday's game because of injury: Drellich tweeted that Jesus Guzman was scratched with back tightness. While the absence of Springer, who hit his twentieth home run on Saturday, significantly reduces the Astros' offensive threat, Guzman's does not: he is hitting just .207 this season with a terrible .567 OPS.
