Astros Injury Update: Josh Zeid, Chris Carter, Alex Presley

By on 7/31/2014 09:15:00 AM

Houston Astros reliever Josh Zeid is out for the season after deciding to have surgery on both feet to address the sesamoiditis that sent him to the disabled list last week. MLB.com's Alyson Footer reports that Zeid was scheduled to undergo the first procedure, on his left foot, on Wednesday, with the same for the right foot following six weeks later. Footer also reports that Chris Carter was out of Wednesday's lineup with illness, while Alex Presley is now hitting off a tee.

Zeid told Footer that the problem could have kept returning if he didn't stop now to get the surgery:
"This could be a reccurring problem every year, for the next 10, 15 years if that's how long I can play," Zeid said. "Everyone made the right decision. The doctor thought that was the best choice for us, stopping now and start the process."
The right-hander has been dealing with foot discomfort for around a year and a half already. He is expected to be ready for spring training.

Slugger Chris Carter was scratched from Wednesday's lineup after becoming ill right before the game. Footer says Carter vomited twice and was given medicine by the medical staff. Alex Presley, sidelined with an oblique strain, hit off a tee and said he's swinging at around 60-70%. Presley hurt his oblique swinging in the first place so will likely be very cautious before stepping up to full activity.
