Athletics Injury Update: Alberto Callaspo exits with hamstring strain

By on 7/12/2014 10:45:00 AM

The Oakland A's lost to the Seattle Mariners on Friday by the score of 3-2. Even with the loss, the A's are 58-35 on the season, two and a half games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. There is concern on the injury front, as first baseman Alberto Callaspo left the game in the second inning with a hamstring injury. Nate Freiman replaced Callaspo and went 0-for-2.

A video of the injury as seen on, shows Callaspo grounding out to shortstop in the second innings and holding the back of his right leg as he runs across the bag at first base.

Susan Slusser, who covers the A's for the San Francisco Chronicle, tweeted the following on Callaspo's status.
Expect Freiman to replace Callaspo in the lineup this weekend. Freiman is batting .231 with a home run and six RBI this season.

Callaspo, in his ninth Major League season, is batting .234 with three home runs and 31 RBI this season.  The veteran has played for the Diamondbacks, Royals, Angels and A's and has a career batting average of .269 with 50 home runs and 346 RBI.
