By on 7/27/2014 11:45:00 AM

The Oakland A's continue to hold off the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. Following a 5-1 victory on Saturday against the Texas Rangers, the A's improved to 64-39 on the season. Leading the league in runs scored and third in pitching, the A's are running on all cylinders. But there is an extra piece of the puzzle who could return as soon as today, as Alberto Callaspo played a rehab game last night

Our own Evan Petzold reported on July 24 that Callaspo, who has been out with a hamstring strain, could return as early as Sunday.

An update on Callaspo, as reported by R.J. White of, is that he went 1-for-5 with two runs scored in his rehab game with high Class A Stockton on Saturday.  It is uncertain whether or not Callaspo will be activated for today's game.

Callaspo, in his ninth Major League season, is batting .234 with three home runs and 31 RBI this season.  The veteran has played for the Diamondbacks, Royals, Angels and A's and has a career batting average of .269 with 50 home runs and 346 RBI.
