Athletics Injury Update: Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick, Kyle Blanks

By on 7/14/2014 03:00:00 PM

Oakland Athletics outfielders Coco Crisp and Josh Reddick could be close to returning, while first baseman Kyle Blanks is still waiting to go on a rehab assignment, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Crisp has not played since July 9 due to a neck issue. The A’s are hoping Crisp can use the All-Star break to completely heal, as his neck has bothered him several times over the course of the season.

Despite the nagging injury, Crisp has played well, posting an .835 OPS and 2.2 WAR in 73 games. Oakland has had to do quite a bit of shuffling in the outfield recently, with the speedy Craig Gentry typically filling in for Crisp in center field.

The team hopes right fielder Josh Reddick will be able to come off the 15-day disabled list on Friday following the All-Star break. He has been out since June 29 with a strained right knee, suffered just five days after he was activated from the DL with a hyperextended knee. Reddick will rehab at Triple-A Stockton this week.

Reddick is hitting .229/.296/.358 this year, but provides the A’s with good defense in the outfield. Infielder Andy Parrino has appeared in three games this year and will likely be sent down should Reddick be activated this week.

The news about Blanks is less positive, as he is unable to run and isn’t close to starting a rehab assignment, according to manager Bob Melvin. Blanks went on the DL on with a tear in his calf muscle on June 24.

After never really living up to expectations in the San Diego Padres organization, Blanks has played well for the A’s in a part-time role since coming over in May, posting a .935 OPS. Oakland has a bit of a log jam at the positions Blanks typically plays, but they could use his bat in the lineup.

  1. reddick will rehab at "triple-A stockton"? i think it's either AAA sacramento, or AA stockton...wherever he's doing his rehab, i hope he stays there long enough this time, before they bring him back to the team. go A's!
