Athletics Injury Update: Coco Crisp out with sore neck

By on 7/12/2014 11:00:00 AM

The Oakland A's lost to the Seattle Mariners on Friday by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped the A's to 58-35, two and a half games in front of the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. The A's were without center fielder Coco Crisp, who was out with a sore neck. Craig Gentry started for Crisp and went 0-for-3. John Jaso hit in the lead off spot without Crisp in the lineup and went 1-for-4.

As reported by Adam Lewis of, Crisp missed Friday's game after sitting out Thursday's game with a sore ankle. Although manager Bob Melvin did not rule out the possibility of Crisp coming off the bench on Friday, he did not enter the game.  Melvin is unsure whether or not Crisp will play this weekend.
"We'll see. He's been such a great in-game option for us at times when he hasn't started. He's been able to come in and impact the game whether it's with his legs, bat. He's an igniter for us. We'll sees how it goes. If that's something I need to do I will, but I'm not saying that's something we're necessarily looking at."
Crisp, in his 13th Major League season, is batting ..291 with seven home runs, 31 RBI and 16 stolen bases this season.  The veteran outfielder has played for the Indians, Red Sox, Royals and A's and has a career batting average of .273 with 115 home runs, 562 RBI and 294 stolen bases.
