Athletics Injury Update: Craig Gentry placed on DL with broken hand

By on 7/29/2014 07:30:00 AM

Oakland Athletics outfielder Craig Gentry has been placed on the 15-day DL after suffering a broken hand. CSN's Joe Stiglich tweeted that Gentry has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture and hopes to miss just a couple of weeks:
Stiglich reports that Gentry sustained the injury when he was hit on a bunt attempt during Sunday's game. He did not come out of the game initially, but later told Stiglich he was in more pain with each at-bat.

Stiglich also notes that lightning-quick outfielder Billy Burns replaced Gentry on the roster. The 24-year-old has 176 steals in 357 minor league games, including 51 in 91 games at Double A Midland this year. He also has a success rate of over 90% since he got to Double A last season, when he was in the Nationals' organisation. It's not yet clear how much Burns will play, but if both Gentry and Coco Crisp miss a decent amount of time, he could steal a number of bases for Oakland over the coming weeks.
