Bengals Injury Update: Clint Boling, Geno Atkins, Leon Hall

By on 7/11/2014 01:30:00 PM

A trio of wounded Bengals are inching ever so closer to returning to the gridiron. Offensive lineman Clint Boling and defensive tackle Geno Atkins are recovering from torn ACLs suffered last season, and while Boling's rehab appears to be going smoothly, things are a bit murkier for Atkins. Leon Hall, meanwhile is well on his way to recovering from his Achilles injury.

Atkins tore his ACL in the Bengals' October loss to the Dolphins, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season. Questions abound about the 26-year-old's recovery from the injury. Atkins is normally rather reserved when dealing with the media when healthy, and as ESPN's Coley Harvey pointed out in February, an injury only makes it worse.

Regardless, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he isn't concerned with Geno's recovery.

"I don't have any concern, no," Lewis said. "Geno all intentions is whenever he can get back. But, again, you have to go through the process."

Boling suffered his ACL injury in the team's December win over the San Diego Chargers. Unlike Atkins, Boling has commented on his recovery from the injury, and he believes he'll be back in time for the regular season.

"I definitely think I’ll be ready for the regular season," Boling said in June. "I really think I can go the first day of camp, but if not it won’t be too long after that. It went really well."

As editor Geoff Hobson points out, one key factor in Boling's recovery is Bengals Director of Rehab Nick Cosgray. Cosgray has another project this offseason: helping corner Leon Hall return from his second achilles injury in three years.

Hall suffered his injury in a Bengals victory over the Lions, and in May was hopeful he'd be able to return for camp. Lewis said that may in fact be the case.

"Leon has had, again, an amazing recovery thus far," Lewis said. "Hopefully he continues with that pace. I will tell you if we were lining up to start training camp tomorrow Leon would probably be lining up to start training camp as he did two years ago."
