Blue Jays Injury Update: Colby Rasmus, Jose Bautista, Brett Cecil

By on 7/04/2014 08:00:00 AM

Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Colby Rasmus sat out of Thursday's loss to the Oakland A's with a wrist issue, according to Barry Davis of Sportsnet. Rasmus apparently hurt his right wrist when colliding with the outfield wall during Wednesday's game:
Anthony Gose played center in Rasmus' place, with Edwin Encarnacion making a second rare start in left field. The team is still being careful with Jose Bautista's hamstring and the right fielder told Davis that he was feeling good enough to play the position 'if he had to'. Manager John Gibbons took no chances and had Bautista at DH again, with normal left fielder Melky Cabrera in right and regular DH Encarnacion in left.

Davis also tweeted that Brett Cecil is coming to join the team in Oakland and will be activated for Friday's game. Cecil went on the DL two weeks ago when the groin strain that had bothered him flared up when he was on the mound. The reliever has been rehabbing at Triple-A Buffalo, where he put in a clean inning of work on Wednesday.
