Blue Jays Injury Update: Edwin Encarnacion, Adam Lind

By on 7/24/2014 06:30:00 PM

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/DH Edwin Encarnacion and first baseman Adam Lind could both rejoin the lineup early next week -- without needing Minor League rehab assignments. This message comes from Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos and manager John Gibbons as the two players have shown steady progress in their recoveries and the Blue Jays need their big bats.'s Gregor Chisholm reported Wednesday night that when the two players are ready, they will likely go right into the lineup. Both have begun taking batting practice, but neither has performed any fielding drills. Anthopoulos recently planned rehab assignments for the coming weekend, but the team needs their bats back sooner.

Both Encarnacion and Lind play first base, so if only one is ready to field, then both could still hit; the other could DH. Encarnacion has not played since straining his right quadriceps on July 5, and Lind has sat out since July 7 with a fractured foot, through which he played for some time before hitting the disabled list.

Anthopoulos stated both could see action early next week when the Blue Jays travel to Fenway Park to face the Boston Red Sox.
