Braves Injury Update: Evan Gattis rehab result

By on 7/19/2014 07:00:00 AM

The Atlanta Braves began the second half of the season with a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. The win improved the Braves to 53-43, first in the National League East. The Braves pounded A.J. Burnett for six runs and 10 hits, in five innings. Ervin Santana pitched six innings to pick up his eighth win of the season. The Braves were again with catcher Evan Gattis, but Gattis is inching closer to returning following his rehab game on Friday.

Our own Rose Ingberman reported on July 18 that Gattis, who has been on the disabled list since June 29 with a bulging thoracic disc, went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter in his first rehab game at Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday night.

Chris Cwik of reported that Gattis was able to take the field in his second rehab game on Friday. He played five innings and went 0-for-2 before being taken out of the game. Barring any setbacks, Gattis is hoping to return on Monday when the Braves play the Marlins.

Gattis is batting .290 with 16 home runs and 39 RBI this season. As a rookie last season, Gattis batted .243 with 21 home runs and 65 RBI in 354 at bats.
