Braves Injury Update: Jason Heyward out with sore back

By on 7/30/2014 08:00:00 AM

The Atlanta Braves entered Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 58-48 record, tied for first in the National League East with the Washington Nationals. With the battle for the division likely to come down to the wire, the Braves need to pick up the offense, which is ranked 23rd in the Major Leagues in runs scored. One key member of the lineup, Jason Heyward, was out last night due to a sore back. Fortunately for the Braves, the injury does not appear serious.

Our own Jacob Fagan reported on July 28 that Heyward left the day's game against the Padres with lower back soreness. Ryan Doumit replaced Heyward and went 0-for-3.

Mark Bowman, who covers the Braves for, tweeted the following on Heyward's status yesterday afternoon.
Doumit was in the lineup in right field and batted seventh on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Entering the game, Doumit was batting .193 with three home runs and 14 RBI this season.

Heyward, in his fifth Major League season, is batting .260 with nine home runs and 42 RBI this season.  In 635 career games, Heyward has a batting average of .260 with 82 home runs and 276 RBI.
