Browns Injury Update: Brian Hoyer 'ready to go' for training camp

By on 7/14/2014 11:09:00 AM

All eyes will be on Johnny Manziel when Cleveland Browns training camp starts later this month, but team brass has maintained that Brian Hoyer is the team's starting quarterback until further notice. Hoyer earned that status with 590 passing yards over a two-game stretch early last season, but he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5 and missed the rest of the season.

Hoyer was unable to fully participate in organized team activities as he worked his way back to full strength. But with the start of camp on the horizon, Hoyer said his surgically repaired knee will not hold him back at all as he looks to stave off Manziel and keep his status atop the depth chart.

One of the most-watched position battles in any training camp will take place in Cleveland this year between Hoyer and Manziel, and it's no guarantee Hoyer hangs onto the job for very long even if he starts Week 1. But he will enter the competition completely healthy, and presumably on a level playing field with the former Heisman Trophy winner.
