Browns Injury Update: Brian Hoyer cleared for training camp

By on 7/18/2014 12:00:00 PM

Johnny Manziel has brought a lot of attention to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, which has left Brian Hoyer and his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on the back burner. But the team has remained committed to him as their starting quarterback, however tentatively, and Hoyer's own optimism about his recovery has now been confirmed with Thursday's news he's been fully cleared for training camp.

Hoyer played well last year prior to being injured in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills, with 590 passing yards and five touchdowns in the two games he started and finished after taking over for an injured and ineffective Brandon Weeden. Hoyer welcomed competition after hearing about the team's decision to draft Manziel, and he will now (at least theoretically) be at his best as he looks to secure the starting job and keep the highly touted rookie on the bench for awhile.
