Capitals Injury Update: Tom Wilson suffers ankle injury

By on 7/17/2014 02:46:00 PM

Washington Capitals right wing Tom Wilson suffered an ankle injury from a fall that happened a few weeks ago. The details regarding the dynamic of the injury have not been specified thus far. However, it is possible that he could miss part of training camp to allow for recovery, according to Jason Brough of NBC Sports.

It remains unknown how Wilson managed to sustain the ankle injury. However, Wilson's agent, Mark Guy, has confirmed that he had fractured his fibula and is now recovering from surgery. Given that the recovery proceeds without complication, Wilson should be cleared to return during the training camp in September.

Wilson, 20, made his NHL debut in the 2012-2013 playoffs with the Capitals, after being drafted in the first round in 2012. He continued with the club this season, playing little ice time, as he develops his skills and attempts to make his presence known. It is believed that Wilson has potential to become a power forward.

Wilson finished his first season with the Capitals with three goals and seven assists, playing a full 82 games.
