Cardinals Injury Update: Kevin Siegrist pitches scoreless inning on rehab

By on 7/16/2014 10:15:00 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals get set to start the second half of the season on Friday with a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. At 52-44, the Cardinals are just a game behind the Brewers in the National League Central. At 29th in the league in runs scored, the Cardinals have been carried by a strong pitching staff which is eighth in the league in ERA. Look for the staff to get even more help with the return of Kevin Siegrist, who continued his rehab at Double-A Springfield with a scoreless inning.

Our own Darius Austin reported on July 14 that Siegrist made his first rehab appearance last Friday.  He struggled with his control, walking two batters in two-thirds of an inning for Double-A Springfield.,

According to, Siegrist pitched an inning for the Springfield Cardinals on Tuesday.  He didn't allow a hit and struck out one.  Of the 13 pitches he threw, nine of them were for strikes. If Siegrist continues to progress, expect him to return to the Cardinals shortly after the All-Star break.

Siegrist, in his second Major League season, has appeared in 23 games for the Cardinals this season. In 20 innings,  he had an ERA of 3.60 and has allowed 17 hits and eight walks, while striking out 27.  Last season, Siegrist allowed only 17 hits and two earned runs in 39 2/3 innings. He has a career record of 4-2 with a 1.51 ERA.
