Diamondbacks Injury Update: Aaron Hill exits after HBP

By on 7/27/2014 09:15:00 AM

Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill was hit in the right hand by a  Justin De Fratus pitch in the sixth inning of Saturday night's 10-6 win over the Phillies, according to Steve Gilbert of (video here and below). X-rays were negative, and Hill will be re-evaluated Sunday morning. He was replaced by Didi Gregorius.

Gilbert reports that Hill initially stayed in the game, playing defense in the bottom of the sixth. "He could throw, but he couldn't hit," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow [Sunday]. I don't have him in the lineup right now." Hill, who is hitting .256/.291/.389 (OPS+ 88) is the subject of multiple trade rumors.

Now in his age-31 season, Hill was the Toronto Blue Jays' first round draft pick in 2003 and made his debut May 20, 2005. With the Blue Jays he posted a .265/.318/.413 line over seven seasons, and was traded in August 2011 with John McDonald to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Kelly Johnson. As a free agent in November 2011, Hill signed a five-year $45 million contract that takes him through 2015.
